OUR STYLE

Our style of karate is Shotokan.  Shotokan karate is one of the “Big Four” styles of karate and was first introduced to the Japanese mainland in the early 1920s by a karate master called Gichin Funakoshi.  Gichin Funakoshi is considered by many scholars to be the modern day father of karate and is largely responsible for the spread of karate in the early part of the 20th century.  The style of Shotokan continues to be one of the main styles of karate practiced nowadays and there are many clubs not just in the United States but around the world that practice this popular style.

Shotokan karate is renowned for its strong stances, powerful techniques, dynamic katas and decisive kumite applications.  Shotokan is one of the most highly developed styles available today and has numerous high-profile masters who travel around the world each year giving top quality seminars.
